Holiday Decorating Tips For A New Homeowner In Morrow County, Ohio
Lots of Morrow County homeowners love putting up displays in front of their home...and most of us in the county enjoy driving through the area to enjoy other people's homes. With all the lights, Christmas trees, candles and snowmen in our homes this holiday season, it's very important to remember to keep your home safe. The following tips will help keep your Morrow County home a safe place this holiday season.
-Do discard lights that are over three years old
-Do check the lights for damage before getting started. Be sure they work properly and don't have any burnt bulbs. You don't want to get all done and go to flip the power switch to find out there is a burnt bulb!
-Don't leave lights on while you are sleeping or away.
-Don't plug more than 3 strands of lights into one extension cord.
-Don't use metal staples or nails as a fastener for lights. Instead try using the New Outdoor Command Strips.
-Don't run extension cords across driveway or sidewalks.
-Do make sure lights and extension cords are certified for outdoor use.
-Do keep decorations and ladders away from overhead electrical lights and power lines.
-Do follow any manufacture's guide on how many strands of lights can be connected together safely.
-Fresh/Live Trees: Fresh trees are less of a fire hazard. When choosing a fresh/live tree, be sure the needles are hard to pull off the branches and the trunk is sticky with resin. Do not allow your fresh/live tree to dry out.
-Artificial Trees: Be sure it is labeled "FIRE RETARDANT".
-Do not place your tree near a fireplace, radiator or any other kind of heat source.
